THE PERFECT BBQ | OUR ESSENTIAL GUIDEJuly 3, 2019
Summer is here (finally), and that means it’s BBQ time!
There’s a lot to think about when barbecuing, and to find the right balance is sometimes hard, but worry not! We are here to guide you through everything from the food, to the wine, to the music!
First things first, you’re going to need a barbecue. There’s so many options and a lot of it depends on budget, and how much of a BBQ enthusiast you are!
ON A BUDGET/SPUR OF THE MOMENT?
Yeah we get it! sometimes the sun creeps up, and you get all inspired to have a barbecue before it inevitably starts raining again. B&Q offer a solid disposable barbecue (pictured) that isn’t going to just wither out five minutes after lighting it, and it’s only £3.
WANT SOMETHING MORE SUBSTANTIAL?
Sometimes instant barbecues just won’t cut it. They’re great if you’re going to Glastonbury Festival or having a picnic in the local park, but if you’re having people over then maybe you’re going to want to invest in something less ‘single-use’.
BEST BARBECUES UNDER £100
- This is a great barbecue from VonHaus. For £79.99 it offers you everything you could want without costing you a fortune. It’s a charcoal barbecue so you don’t have to mess around buying gas, but it also has a temperature gauge so you can monitor and manage cooking times. The black powder-coated steel also makes it look slick while being resistant to scratches and rust.
- This is a wonderful barbecue from Black Country Metal Works. It’s more compact than the previous featured BBQ and doesn’t feature storage or temperature gauges, however it opens up and you can use the lid as a grill, maximising cooking space. This barbecue is great if space is a bit limited, e.g. if you only have a balcony. At £41.99 this is a fantastic purchase if you’re intending to have some summer gatherings but not wanting to burst the bank.
WHICH WINE TO SERVE AT YOUR BBQ
So, there’s a plethora of different wine that you can serve, but which one suits which occasion?
Minivino is perfect for festivals, barbecues in the park or if you’re having people over but don’t have enough glassware!
The classic collection is made up of a beautiful, mellow Merlot, a classic example of Chardonnay and a beautiful blush. All very refreshing and ready to drink from the cup they come in. We served this at Wentworth Music Festival and it went down a storm!
LE CLIVIE PROSECCO
This is a youthful and fresh Prosecco, yet elegant and complex. The nose has the aromas of white flowers, also hints of apples and pineapple. These flavours are carried through to the palate, which also has good acidity and that added minerality.
Basically, it’s really easy drinking an refreshing. Also, it comes in a ‘dumpy’ bottle, which will give your bbq an elegant touch to it.
Love the sound of our Prosecco? Well it’s only £10.75 per bottle. Click here to order a case!
GABLE’S END SAUVIGNON BLANC
We love this Sauvignon Blanc because it is very fruit forward. It has nuances of gooseberry, and you could almost be forgiven for thinking that this was a Marlborough SB. However, it hails from South Africa’s Western cape. This beauty packs great acidity which goes really well with barbecued pork chops, because the acidity in the wine will stand up to and compliment the sweetness in the Barbecue glaze.
Don’t just take our word for it though. Award winning steak and burger restaurant Smokin’ Bull have recently added it to their wine list!

If you want red wine to go with those BBQ pork chops, then look no further. The light tannin in Pinot Noir help bring out the smoke and sweet flavours, but not over power them. A lot of people often make the mistake of automatically pairing BBQ food with heavy red wine, however wines such a Cabernet Sauvignon can easily overpower these flavours.
This particular Pinot Noir is one of our favourites. It is from the Budureasca winery in Romania (one of our favourite wineries). It’s light, yet has developed lovely savoury vegetable notes from bottle ageing, whilst retaining youthful red cherry aromas.
We love Vine in Flames, and know you will too. Order some today by clicking here
