Horgelus Rouge de Gala is a spirited red wine from the heart of Gascony in Southwest France, produced by Domaine Horgelus on their “Gala” parcel. This vibrant vintage (2024) reflects the estate’s commitment to fruit-driven, accessible wines that still show character and depth. Domaine Horgelus is run by Yoan Le Menn, whose winemaking philosophy combines respect for tradition with a modern, fresh approach. The vineyard soils – rich in clay and sun-soaked hillsides – help produce grapes with both richness and structure.

TASTING NOTES & IDEAL PAIRINGS
On the nose, this Horgelus Rouge de Gala offers intense aromas of ripe blackberries, dark cherries, and blackcurrant, layered with warming spice notes like cinnamon and clove. There’s also a touch of liquorice and a hint of smokiness from the Tannat grape. On the palate, it is medium- to full-bodied, with juicy red and black fruit, soft but structured tannins, and a rounded finish that lingers nicely. The texture feels smooth and plush, yet the wine maintains vibrant acidity for balance.
This red pairs beautifully with grilled meats – think lamb skewers or pork chops – as well as tapas, charcuterie boards, and soft cheeses. It also holds up well alongside classic French fare like cassoulet or roasted vegetables. Serve at around 15–17°C to bring out both its fruit intensity and its spicy, savoury notes.
