Vino Canes Blanco

We’re very excited to have this wine in stock. The Martinez Yebra Bodega is a small, but brilliant producer in the Bierzo region of North-West Spain. They produce a small number of wines, mainly from the Mencia and Godello grapes and we absolutely love them.

This blanco is made from 100% Godello grapes. Godello is a grape that is almost exclusively found in Northwest Spain and Northern Portugal. It produces lively wine, full of citrus and stone fruit flavours, with added minerality. Jancis Robinson likens the structure of Godello to well-structured white Burgundy, so if that’s not a reason to give it a try then I don’t know what is!

The grapes were hand harvested in small clusters of 20kg boxes. This is done as to not over-fill the boxes. Overfilling boxes at harvest can cause the skins of the grapes on the bottom to split and allow unwanted air into the fruit, resulting in undesirable aromas in the wine. 

With this wine expect wonderful acidity, vibrant hints of lemon, lime, hints of pear, green apple and lovely notes of peach. It’s a wonderful wine, perfect with seafood, especially scallops with lime and coriander!
